Im a little behind on posting, so I'll try to catch up here pretty soon. For now, day one in Vienna!
We got to the city pretty early, taking a train from budapest.
Once there our first point of order was to find the hostel. We saw some interesting advertising along the way.
We got some lunch and spent awhile trying to decide how we would spend the rest of the day. We finally decided on the Schönbrunn Palace - what used to be a hunting lodge turned into the home of the rulers of the Habsburg empire. On the way we also saw some more interesting graffiti.
We learned a ton about the habsburgs, especially their most famous members; Empress Maria-Theresa, Franz-josef I, Franz-Josef II, the famous Sisi, and even some about Marie antoinette.
The grounds are just gorgeous, and I could spend all day walking around. My favorite parts were the Obelisk/grotto fountain, which included a giant egyptin obelisk with hyroglyphics that were gibberish, because hyroglyphics werent actually deciphered until the next century; and the rome ruins fountain, which was just beautiful, and was apparently a botanic display back in its day. What I wouldnt give to see that.
Of course everything else was beautiful too, and I got a gorgeous view from the top of this big roman structure thing that I cant currently remember the name of. Also the small japanese garden was great to see. ^_^
Finally we walked back home through some side streets and got to go through some interesting areas. I got to see a little urban garden
Some more interesting graffiti
And a really nice view from a bridge. Im starting to realize that most bridge views tend to be nice.
Then we went to bed and prepared to get up early for the next day in the city center. If they have WiFi on the train I can try to upload photos then. I need to catch up soon so I can move on to talking about prague! We're leaving tomorrow!
